Kommentar til eValg: Lyt til en expert

Re: Att: Kim Jensen

Thanks very much to Poul-Henning and Version2 for publicizing my talk! I encourage all interested readers to come and hear what I have to say, what the live online broadcast, or watch the recorded lecture afterwards. To correct a few statements made by readers here: I am a Scientist/Activist ...

Re: Endelig

I am surprised that you say it isn't particularly hard to deobfuscate the NemID applet. We have found that they did not use any mainstream public or commercial obfuscater, so deep automated obfuscation is not trivial. Did you really do the obfuscation, or just have a peek at the decompiled bina...

Open Source election software

A final message to wrap-up... My research group (http://www.kindsoftware.com/) and the DemTech project (see the sig) have developed several formally specified and verified Open Source election software systems over the past decade or so. Some of these systems have been used in other countries ...

Re: Hemmelige Procedure

Alan, The point you make in your last paragraph is exactly why the Ministry is pursuing this particular agenda wrt these trials. They want to maintain the excellent aspects of the current system, particularly Public Control, to the best of their ability. Best, Joe Prof. Joseph Kiniry DemTech...

Re: Hemmelige Procedure

Peter, No, you are not the only one. We make strong arguments for transparency and Open Source all of the time with the Government. That being said, there are a number of recent techniques to guarantee that running code is the same as certified code. Unfortunately, I do not think any of them ...

Re: Kan man så stemme flere gange?

David, All of your criticisms and questions are well-justified. These are the kinds of discussions we have been having with the Ministry and the Municipalities for the past year or two. Despite the evidence to the contrary, they still with to conduct this small-scale experiment. It is importa...

Re: Viden, forståelse og købelyst ...

I agree with your assessment. Happily, the vast majority of politicians are not enamored with evoting here in Denmark. Only the bureaucrats in the Municipalities are. Thus, I still have hope. Best, Joe Prof. Joseph Kiniry DemTech: Trustworthy Democratic Technology - http://www.demtech.dk/

Re: Ugyldige stemmer og prisliste

The Municipalities believe that they can decrease costs, increase participation, increase election day efficiency, eliminate spoiled ballots, and permit the disabled to vote independently. Only the last two of these goals is supported by the scientific evidence. Best, Joe Blank votes do represe...

Re: Stem blankt

Blank votes do represent a significant portion of the invalid votes (64% of invalid ballots in the last election). See Table 18 in http://www.dst.dk/pukora/epub/upload/17989/ftvalg.pdf Providing voters a "none of the above" is done in other countries and works well. Getting such on the...

great article---looking forward to everyone's input!

Hi all, As usual with articles that intersect notions of democracy and security in Denmark, I am enthusiastic about both Poul's position as stated above, as well as with the engagement of the Version2 readership. Many of the participants in this first workshop on e-voting in Denmark have asked ...

DemTech reflections on article and commentary.

Again, thanks to Version2 for the coverage of this critical IT system, that of a potential for increased use of IT in elections in Denmark and abroad. And thanks to Version2 readers for their comments and questions. I have a couple of points to make based up on the above discussion: An e-voti...

DemTech reflections on article and commentary.

Once again I am impressed and pleased with Version2 readers. I love the engagement I witness here. One thing I want to make clear, as we have on the DemTech.dk homepage, is that the prototype kiosk-based e-voting system demonstrated just before and during the recent election is the fine work of...
Kommentar til ITU-ekspert: E-valg bliver sikrere end papir-valg

DemTech reflections on article and commentary.

Hello everyone. I'd like to provide a few additional reflections on this article and the associated excellent commentary. The views that follow are my own, but it is fair to say that they closely align with those of DemTech researchers at ITU and abroad. IT projects run by governments are oft...

On a critical analysis of NemID

To the reader and, in particular, @tue kyndal and @Niels Didriksen, I made several of these points when being interviewed for this article. DemTech position v-v remote voting

Hello Carsten et al., I’m a little bit surprised about your statement regarding "categorically against remote voting in any fashion". To my knowledge remote eVoting is already implemented in Switzerland and Estonia for municipality election. Indeed, we are at odds with not only DRE and...

DemTech reflections on this article (from Joe Kiniry)

Hello again everyone, The members of the DemTech project were quite surprised to see this article appear today. First and most importantly, DemTech and the ITU are not interested in imposing e-voting in Denmark or anywhere else. We are simply scientists who are activist-experts in e-voting, fo...

the red herring of blank vs. spoiled ballots

While I appreciate the interest in this somewhat esoteric facet of ballots, I'm afraid that discussion about "blank" vs. "spoiled" ballots is a bit of a red herring. Simply put, "blank" ballots are permitted by law in some electoral systems but are illegal (and thus...
