Mens markedet for smartphones og tablets har buldret af sted, har chipgiganten Intel stået på sidelinjen og kigget på den enorme succes, konkurrenten ARM har haft med processorer til dette marked.
Frustrationen har fået Intel til at ændre strategien og satse markant på processorer, der kunne løse samme opgave lige så godt, og nu kommer så første bud på en smartphone med Intel indeni.
Xolo X900 hedder den indisk producerede Android-telefon, som i første omgang kun kommer til salg i Indien, til en forventet pris på omkring 2.400 kroner.

Processoren er en Intel Atom Z2460, der består af en Medfield-processor på 1,66 gigahertz og en 400 megahertz grafikprocessor.
En sammenligning - ud fra Intels egne målinger - har vist, at Z2460-processoren sagtens kan konkurrere med de processorer, der bliver brugt i topmodeller som Samsung Galaxy Nexus og iPhone 4S, både på rå regnekraft og på strømforbrug. Det har it-mediet Anandtech tidligere skrevet i en gennemgang af teknikken bag Z2460-processoren.
Netop strømforbruget har været Intels akilleshæl i konkurrencen med ARM-modellerne.
Xolo X900 kommer med en skærm på fire tommer og opløsningen 1024 x 600 pixels, samt alt hvad man ellers forventer af en smartphone i det prisleje i dag.
XOLO X900 Brings the Best of Intel Computing to Mobile Users in India

The partnership between Intel and Lava was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. The XOLO X900 is based on Intel’s smartphone reference design featuring the Intel® Atom™ processor Z2460 with Intel® Hyper Threading Technology and supporting HSPA+ 3G connectivity.
The high-performance 1.6 GHz Atom™ processor with Hyper Threading Technology brings speed and multi-tasking performance to consumers’ fingertips. The leading-edge 400 MHz graphics clock and the full 1080p HD video encoding and playback make this phone a perfect entertainment device, providing users with an immersive gaming and video experience. It also features an 8-megapixel camera delivering advanced imaging capabilities including burst mode that allows 10 pictures to be captured in under a second.
The XOLO X900 is housed in a sleek design with a 4.03-inch high-resolution LCD touch screen for crisp text and vibrant images. At launch, the X900 will run on Android Gingerbread*, with a planned over-the -air software upgrade to Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich* platform shortly thereafter.
